Day 2: Brisbane Field Trip

September 25, 2018

The members of our SPE UNSW Brisbane field trip were treated to an office visit today. We were guided by Jay Zou, an Origin Production Engineer and UNSW Petroleum Engineering graduate.

Our first activity was a safety moment, which I think was the first safety moment we’d taken part in for nearly all of us. We were then given control over the subjects which were going to be discussed during our visit, in an almost Q&A forum style. The high level of interaction during this part of the visit elicited a great response from the members of our field trip.

After all our questions had been answered, we were joined by a selection of Origin graduate engineers. Each of the engineers explained the implications of their job and how they found themselves at Origin. All of us were shocked by the diversity of the paths which led each employee to Origin.

We were then shown around the centralised logistics facilities Origin have in Brisbane. This was fascinating to see as we could watch the Origin teams work in real time.

This office visit was particularly useful to our students as it allowed our students to ask any questions about the vacation program application process, which many of our field trip members are involved in as applicants.

We’d like to thank Origin for their hospitality for graciously allowing us to visit their offices.
